    Caskie Stinnett, a travel writer, humorist and former magazine editor, died of cancer Nov. 5 at his home in Wayne, Pa. He was 87.

    Mr. Stinnett, whose stories appeared in Atlantic Monthly, Travel & Leisure, The Saturday Evening Post and The Ladies’ Home Journal, claimed he traveled a lot because he didn’t want his life “disrupted by routine.”

    Although he traveled all over the world during his 65-year career, he always returned to Hamloaf, his 3 1/2-acre island in Casco Bay in Maine.

    He appreciated the island, he wrote, “for looking the same as it did 1,000 years ago.”

    He was born Harry Caskie Stinnett in Remington, Va.

    He graduated from William and Mary College in 1932 and began his career as a newspaper reporter in Staunton, Va., before joining the Curtis Publishing Co. in Philadelphia in 1946.

    He became travel editor and eventually editor in chief of Holiday magazine, a position he held from 1967 until 1971.
